"Taking Her Life Back" - July Newsletter

When asked how she feels about New Level CDC and the services that it provides, Sharon states with quiet confidence, "I believe I'm in this program for spiritual reasons. I feel like this is where I'm supposed to be." Sharon came to New Level from The Next Door a faith based nonprofit organization that provides "services for women and their families impacted by addiction, mental illness, trauma and/or incarceration. Since coming to New Level from The Next Door, Sharon's transformation has been nothing short of astounding.

Sharon was born and grew up in Shelbyville, TN, where she was raised by her aunt and other extended family; her father left her family when she was about two years old, and her mother left the family when she was around ten. Shortly after high school Sharon came to Nashville to see her mom who was struggling with addiction. Sharon got caught up in a life of addiction and its consequences. After nearly 20 years of addiction and stints behind bars, Sharon decided that it was time to take her life back.

After graduating from The Next Door's residential recovery program, Sharon moved into one of New Level CDC's apartments this past January. She says her new place is a huge step up and a clean, safe, and comfortable place to call home. She has been sober for over two years now, just recently celebrated her 1-year work anniversary has been offered a promotion. She has also rebuilding her relationship with her two children, Steven (27) and Jasmine (25). Sharon freely admits that she was "not the mom she should have been" to her children growing up. However, her children still love her very much and she is grateful for where they are.

In addition to renting an affordable home from New Level, Sharon takes full advantage of our financial coaching services. She's created her first ever budget to help her plan her spending. Sharon has taken control of her expenses and stopped living paycheck to paycheck. She is rebuilding her credit and making monthly deposits in a savings account to help her reach her ultimate goal, owning her own home. While moving forward with her life, Sharon has a strong desire to give back and help others who have faced challenges like hers. She's taken her life back, is giving back and has a promising future ahead.
